After an 18-year hiatus, Augusta will be home to a professional hockey team once again. Fans were given the opportunity to vote on the name prior to its official reveal. And when it was all said and done, the Augusta Lynx name won out, bringing new life to the former iteration of the organization.

“We’re so excited to bring this team to Augusta and introduce something truly special for our fans,” said Augusta Lynx co-owner Tim Tebow. “Our hope is to create an experience that brings families together, builds lasting memories, and reflects the heart of this community.”

The Lynx will become the 32nd member of the East Coast Hockey League (ECHL), a developmental league for the AHL and NHL. Additionally, the team will be affiliated with those leagues down the line, meaning that players for the Lynx may one day play at the highest level of hockey.

Augusta will begin play during the 2027-28 ECHL season. In preparation for 36 home games throughout the season, construction of the new Augusta Arena is well underway. The state-of-the-art venue located in downtown Augusta will have 10,500 seats. The multi-purpose arena also will host concerts and other entertainment events as well.

“Being part of this new chapter in Augusta is incredibly meaningful to us,” said co-owner David Hodges. “We’re committed to investing in this community and building something that goes beyond the game.”

The new Lynx logo was designed by The Barn Creative. The logo has similarities to the old one, but it also has a new color scheme that was intentionally chosen to represent elements from the region itself.

Announcements for the team’s jersey, mascot and head coach hiring will come in the next few months, according to the team. Season ticket deposits are being accepted now at augustalynx.com.
