Wembanyama leads the way as San Antonio win game three of NBA Finals

The San Antonio Spurs ended the New York Knicks winning streak as they edged game three of the NBA Finals 115-111 to cut the series deficit to 2-1.

The Knicks had won 13 consecutive matches through the play-offs, but watched by US President Donald Trump from Knicks owner James Dolan's box, the Spurs were able to close a tight battle at Madison Square Garden.

After losing the opening two matches at home, the Spurs opened a 33-22 lead in the opening quarter before the Knicks responded with 42 points in the second quarter to lead by seven.

That advantage evaporated in the third quarter as the Spurs edged back ahead by one and they held on to a narrow lead throughout the final period.

Victor Wembanyama finished with 32 points, eight rebounds and six assists for the Spurs, Stephon Castle adding 23 points. Jalen Brunson had 32 points for the Knicks.

Game four is again in New York on Wednesday before the series returns to San Antonio on Saturday.
