Analyst gives insight into Browns QB battle with training camp next

The Cleveland Browns are set to enter training camp with a heated quarterback battle between Deshaun Watson and Shedeur Sanders. And while it looked like Watson had the early advantage through minicamp, that seems to no longer be the case.
Bleacher Report's James Palmer has reported that Sanders has "closed the gap" between himself and Watson for the starting job this season. Hear Palmer for yourself below:

NBC Sports' Kyle Dvorchak had this to add to Palmer's sentiment:
"Early in the offseason, it looked like the Browns were more than comfortable rolling Watson out as their Week 1 starter. Then they saw Watson practice. Reports from OTAs and minicamp were not kind to Watson, though Sanders didn’t earn great reviews either. After getting a better look at both players, it sounds like new head coach Todd Monken truly doesn’t know who will take the first snap this year. By virtue of not being Deshaun Watson, Sanders has forced a legitimate training camp competition, though we doubt much fantasy value comes from the situation, regardless of who wins the job."
As we sit two weeks from training camp, it sure seems like the quarterback job is wide open between Watson and Sanders. If this season goes south quickly, the Browns will be in the market for a quarterback very early in the 2027 NFL Draft.
